According to a press release, members of the Jeffersonville Police Department responded to the intersection of Pearl and West Maple Streets around 12:46 a.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.
The pedestrians — both of whom were identified as adult males — were unconscious when police made it to the crash scene. The men were transported from the area to a local hospital to receive treatment after the crash.
JPD reported that one of the victims regained consciousness after the crash, though he did sustain what police described as “significant injuries.”
In its release, JPD indicated that it did not have any updates on the medical status of the second pedestrian injured in the crash.
Police arrested 30-year-old Benjamin Fox for his alleged role in the crash. He was booked into the Clark County Jail.
JPD reported that Fox has been preliminarily charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment to others.
The victims’ families identified them as Kirk Nuthak and Lincoln Ottersbach. Nuthak’s family indicated that he sustained multiple bone fractures and was placed on a breathing tube after the crash.
Ottersbach’s family reported that he suffered numerous broken bones, some of which will need to be surgically repaired.
Ottersbach’s family also said he was supposed to get married on Saturday, but the event had to be postponed. Nuthak and his wife are expecting their first child this November.
As of this article’s publication, little additional information on Fox’s case had been made available.
