Salt Lake City opens 12 new pickleball courts at Glendale Park

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Mayor Erin Mendenhall, along with other Salt Lake City officials and pickleball enthusiasts, hosted a grand opening for a dozen new pickleball courts at Glendale Park on Saturday morning.

The pickleball courts are part of the redevelopment of the former Raging Waters waterpark site. Plans for redeveloping the site were first introduced as part of the Department

of Public Lands’ Vision Plan in 2022. The plan included transforming four tennis courts into 12 pickleball courts, instead of just the originally planned four pickleball courts.

“These courts are the direct result of community voices shaping their own public spaces, and we’re proud to deliver this kind of meaningful, equitable investment to the Glendale neighborhood,” Mendenhall said.

Officals say these courts are part of a bigger effort to increase pickleball access across the city. Next year, the city plans to have 26 pickleball courts open on the west side, in addition to 14 courts already open on the east side.

The courts are the first part of the city’s first new regional park in 60 years. Scheduled to be completed this fall, the first phase of redevelopment will include an all-abilities playground, full basketball court, walking paths, shaded canopies, a large open lawn space and additional parking.
