EASTLAND COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A $6,000 reward is now being offered in a cold case murder with ties to Eastland County.

The reward is for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the death of 37-year-old Courtney Allan Sholar.

Sholar was last seen on June 29, 2019, in Ranger, after just returning from a trip while driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

At that time, he was in the process of moving from Ranger to Oklahoma. On May 16, 2024—almost five years later—his body was discovered in a rural area of Eastland County.

Sholar, who was known to many as “Opie,” had worked various oil field jobs in the area. He had deep ties to the local oil industry and the surrounding community.

The murder of Sholar is still actively being investigated by the Texas Rangers and the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators have conducted DNA testing and interviewed several witnesses. However, they believe there are still individuals who have information about what happened to Sholar.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-8477.
