MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah (ABC4) — One person is dead after a glider crashed into a mountain in Morgan County yesterday afternoon.

The Mountain Green Fire Protection District confirmed that a glider crashed into Mahogany Mountain near Mountain Green around 2 p.m. Friday. The pilot of the glider was killed in the crash, which started a fire around 7,000 feet.

Crews from Mountain Green, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management were called to the scene to help fight the fire. The fire was held to three acres before crews were able to hike in and finish extinguish the flames.

As crews were leaving the scene, one of the brush trucks that responded got stuck on rock while heading back down the mountain, blowing a tire and causing undercarriage damage. It took several hours for the truck to be towed down before fire crews finally left the scene at 1:30 a.m.

The identity of the pilot that was killed has not been released.
