PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Blanchet House is a nonprofit social services organization in Old Town. They have been around since 1952 providing meals, clothing and housing services — mostly for men.

Now, Blanchet House is establishing an emergency overnight shelter for women, which will be in the Pearl District at NW 17th Avenue and Lovejoy Street.

It will be called Bethanie’s Room.

Executive Director Scott Kerman joined Eye on Northwest Politics this week with Katie O’Brien of Rose Haven, which currently runs a day shelter for women and children.

During the interview, Kerman addressed the need for a women’s overnight shelter. He and O’Brien also discussed the impacts of shelters in neighborhoods like the Pearl District.
