According to a new study by WalletHub, in comparison to the other 50 states and the District of Columbia, West Virginia ranked 45th overall in term of school systems, ranking 48th in quality and 19th in safety for a total score of 39.93. West Virginia also ranked 48th in math test scores.
While this may seem discouraging, West Virginia does rank much higher on lists focusing on other things related to education, one of which is having the lowest drop out rates in the country, 2.7 times lower than Washington D.C., which has the highest.
West Virginia also ranks highly in early education programs according to another study by WalletHub. With an access ranking of eight, a quality ranking at nine and a resources and economic support ranking of 19, West Virginia ranks 7th overall with a total score of 67.80.
