Tall Corn Festival returns to Rossville

The Tall Corn Festival will feature sporting events, corn eating contests and more from Aug. 8-10. The Rossville community has used the festival as a way to kick off harvest season and celebrate local farmers for almost 100 years. This year’s theme is “Raise ‘em Rural,” and attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest farm wear and keep an eye out for corn-themed floats at the parade.

“Tall Corn Fest celebrates the corn harvest and the end of summer,” said Lacey Dieter, president of the Community Development Committee in Rossville. “It also serves as a reunion event for all the people originally from the area to come back to town and reconnect.” 

The festival is very affordable, with most events being free or very cheap, such as $1 bingo, free hotdogs and plenty of activities for kids. This year there will also be two parades: a kid’s parade at 9:45 a.m. and the grand parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 9. 

Dieter told 27 News this year she is most excited for the free community street dance, with music by country artist Katie May and rock cover band Chance Encounter. The festival kicks off Friday, Aug. 8 with vendors, food trucks, car shows and the tallest corn contest.
