Oakland police seize 27 guns in less than a week

(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department seized 27 guns and made multiple felony arrests for serious crimes in less than a week, the department announced Friday.

On Sunday, one Oakland man was arrested in connection to a 2024 armed carjacking, the Oakland Police Department said. That same day, another man from Oakland was arrested for a robbery and an assault that happened in May.

On Monday, OPD arrested an Oakland man for an alleged robbery at a business on the 4100 block of Redwood Road. Also on Monday, OPD arrested a man for possession of an assault rifle during a traffic stop. Officers proceeded to search his Oakland home, where they seized two more guns and arrested another suspect for warrants related to multiple shootings.

On Tuesday, another man was arrested in connection to an armed robbery at a business on the 4100 block of Redwood Road. Another man was arrested for an alleged robbery that happened in July 2024.

On Wednesday, OPD arrested a man wanted for a shooting that happened on the 900 block of 39th Avenue in May. Officers seized a gun during the arrest.

On Thursday, OPD arrested two men for an alleged shooting that happened on the 500 block of 25th Street on July 30. Two guns were seized during their arrests.

“Also on Thursday, patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery in the 1500 block of 92nd Avenue,” OPD said. “Officers arrested three suspects, two adults and a juvenile, for the robbery. A firearm was recovered along with the stolen items.”

The suspects in these cases all face criminal charges. OPD said that the arrests “reflect the tireless efforts of the women and men of the Oakland Police Department, who continue working around the clock to keep our neighborhoods safe.”
