TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — Two homes were destroyed in Tooele after a garage fire got out of control on Thursday, according to Tooele Fire. ABC4.com spoke with neighbors regarding the incident.

Firefighters received calls about the fire just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 31. Propane tanks and other flammable materials in the backyard of the first home fueled a massive blaze. The video below shows the extent of the flames that firefighters were dealing with.

“The work of the fire department… I was in awe just watching them work. I’m sad. I’m very sad for all involved, but also super grateful. Just super grateful, and feeling very blessed,” neighbor Emilie Stahl said.

Firefighters said seven people lived in one of the homes, and five in the other. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.

“They saved my home,” Stahl said. “I think the winds were an issue during the day, and I think things could’ve gone much worse. The neighbors really kicked in and helped each other.”

“This community has always been great,” she continued. “Just the amount of people that were running around making sure people were safe… It was amazing.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect in Utah until 10 p.m. Saturday. Very low humidity and wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected.
