Multiple Sacramento-area fire agencies join forces to battle Gifford Fire

(FOX40.COM) — The Office of Emergency Services strike team, comprising multiple local fire agencies, was deployed to the Gifford Fire in Santa Barbara on Saturday morning.

The Metropolitan Fire District, Sacramento City Fire, Cosumnes Fire, West Sacramento Fire, and Manteca Fire were sent to combat the flames around 11 a.m.

The wildfire, which began near Highway 166 northeast of Santa Maria on Friday, has burned more than 23,000 acres and is 5% contained, according to Cal Fire.

Metro Fire said in a statement, “This coordinated response highlights the strength and readiness of California’s mutual aid system as local fire agencies come together to protect lives, property, and natural resources in Santa Barbara County.”
