‘Mechanical issue’ diverts plane headed to SFO

(KRON) — A United Airlines plane headed from Tampa to San Francisco International Airport was diverted to San Antonio Friday night due to a “mechanical issue,” a UA media relations spokesperson confirmed to KRON4.

United flight 2301, on aircraft 737-MAX8, landed safely in San Antonio, said the airline company.

“Passengers deplaned normally at the gate and we’ve arranged for a replacement aircraft to get them to their destination as soon as possible,” said UA in a news statement.

There was a total of 179 passengers on the flight and six crew members.

Details concerning the origin and cause of the mechanical issue have not yet been provided.
