The incident occurred on Highway 182 just after 1:00 a.m. on August 2. Investigators said two officers observed two vehicles engaged in a drag race on Highway 182 West. The officers attempted to stop the vehicles.
According to police, officers pursued one of the vehicles onto Old West Point Road. When turning to University Drive, police said the driver lost control and crashed into an apartment complex.
The driver was identified as Jaheim Woodard, 20, of Weir. He was charged with felony fleeing, drag racing and two counts of contributing to the neglect of a minor.
The incident remains under investigation.
