The school district is switching to Infinite Campus, a platform being used across the state, but the rollout hasn’t been seamless.
We asked district leaders about challenges in this transition and when families can expect access.
“Last year, our North Carolina Department of Public Instruction did transition away from power school to a new student information system called Infinite Campus, something that we were super excited about to have a new system,” said Dr. Sonya Stephens, Guilford County Schools Chief of Staff.
Guilford County families have been trying to log in to the new Infinite Campus portal after being given a launch date of July 14.
The statewide system is meant to modernize how parents access everything from grades to schedules, and even transportation requests.
GCS Chief of Staff Dr. Sonya Stephens said not everything is up and running yet.
“We have close to 68,000 students. Most of our kids have a parent or guardian that has contact information that transfers with them. So, it’s just going to take time, and so we want families to understand that time is of the essence,” said Stephens.
For parents who thought they were going to be able to log in and see student information on July 14, it’s raising questions.
“They’re calling with questions because they are concerned that they’re missing something that they feel like they’re supposed to see. I think people thought that they were going to be able to see their students’ schedules, which will not be accessible until a few days before open house,” Stephens said. “ I think families start with the new system that they were going to have access to information a lot sooner than they have had access to in the past.”
While the district works to verify data before allowing them access.
Stephens said parents can still enroll students, submit transportation requests, and call schools directly for help.
“We want to make sure that families understand that they’re not missing any information. We are on track with the processes that we typically follow with families and providing them with information,” said Stephens.
GCS said everything is on track for parents to access the platform by the day of their student’s school’s open house, which varies by campus.
GCS early colleges and early start schools will have their first day next week, and parents should already have access to the system’s information.
For schools on the traditional calendar, the first day back is August 25.
