Since the Frederick Keys — named for Frederick-native Francis Scott Key — lost its affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles in 2020, the team has put a product on the field without a connection to major league baseball.
“This community has been clamoring for an affiliated team,” said Steve Fusch with the Keys executive office. “And our ballpark is a ballpark where people really come out, it’s where memories are made.”
Attain Sports is behind the new deal.
Attain’s president, Richard Roberts, says, “Frederick is one of the best baseball towns in America. Parents have brought their kids here, they’ve brought their grandparents here and they come as young, throughout the years. This is a great baseball community.”
Under the new arrangement with the Orioles, the Class A Aberdeen Ironbirds franchise, which lies just outside of Baltimore, the team will play at Harry Grove Stadium come this spring.
