Stepfather shoots stepson in Burke County altercation: Sheriff

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One man was shot and another was left injured in a reported altercation on Conley Bumgarner Road Tuesday.

When deputies arrived at the home, Wesley Wilson Whisenant, 28, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Also located at the scene was Bobby Ray Allen Jr., 51, who had sustained injuries from an apparent assault.

Officials say the preliminary investigation indicates that Allen, the stepfather of Whisenant, shot Whisenant following an altercation between the two.

Both individuals were transported by Burke County EMS to UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton for medical treatment. Whisenant was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for additional care.

This remains an active investigation. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the District Attorney’s Office regarding potential charges related to the incident.
