Possible drowning reported at Broad River Greenway in Cleveland County

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Emergency crews are currently searching for a missing swimmer after a possible drowning was reported at the Broad River Greenway in Cleveland County Friday afternoon.

According to Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue, the call came in around 12:54 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, about a man who may have gone under near the south side of the river. The park is located at 126 Broad River Drive in Shelby.

At least one rescue boat and several swimmers are actively searching the area.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity, and it’s still unclear exactly what happened. This is a developing situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

This is not the first drowning incident to occur at the Broad River Greenway. In June 2024, a 10-year-old girl drowned in the area.
