Nearly 5 years later, Clovis man accused of 2 decades of child molestation, to face trial

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man who was arrested in 2020 and was accused of molesting multiple children under the age of 14 for two decades is going to trial, nearly five years later, according to court documents.

On Nov. 25, 2020, the sheriff’s office said they arrested Nathaniel Stephen Myers from Clovis. Deputies at the time arrested him on six counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14.

According to court documents, Myers was released a day later on Nov. 26.

The sheriff’s office said an investigation found that Myers had molested multiple children under the age of 14. The charges brought against Myers allege the crimes were committed from 2001 to 2017.

Myers is facing charges of four counts of Lewd or Lascivious Act with a Minor and two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

In the past few years, Myers has had various hearings regarding this case. According to court documents, in 2021 and 2023, he pleaded not guilty to the various charges. For 2020, 2024 and this year, there are no disposition events or pleas listed.

Now, nearly five years later, after the case was filed in 2020, he will be going to trial.

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office says that Myers’ case was delayed because it was filed in 2020. That is when court operations were “significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.” The DA’s office mentioned that the pandemic led to broad delays in the scheduling and resolution of criminal matters, including trials.

Since then, this case has continued to move through the judicial process, with various legal proceedings taking place including preliminary hearings, motions, and changes in defense counsel.

According to the DA’s office, Myers posted bond for $690,000 a few days after he was arrested and has been out of custody since then. The DA’s office said there were no additional terms with him being out of custody.

The jury trial date, according to court documents, will be on Nov. 3 of this year.
