Hairstylist at Springdale salon details Andrew McGann’s arrest

Andrew James McGann was arrested on July 30 at Lupita’s Beauty Salon in Springdale when he showed up for a haircut.

Adriana Ruiz has worked at the salon as a hairstylist for 11 years. She said she knew something was off the moment she saw McGann.

“I saw him here, and I just had chills. I had chills running down because he looked really sunken and he didn’t look like like any other person could look like,” Ruiz said.

According to court documents, McGann was taken into custody by the Arkansas State Police at 5:13 p.m.

Ruiz said she was careful to act normal and carry on with the haircut that was requested in order not to tip off McGann. According to Ruiz, five minutes after she began, authorities arrived on the scene.

“Someone walked in and didn’t have a uniform, so I just assumed it was another client. I was about five minutes into the haircut when a man pulled up asking about whose car that was that was outside,” Ruiz said. “That’s when he would tell him, ‘I believe this is your car,’ and he just stood quiet. I guess he felt kind of scared.”

Police then ordered McGann to stand up. They searched him and put him in handcuffs.

Ruiz described his demeanor as “reserved” and said that McGann did not try to put up a fight.

“He just gave in,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz said that the past 24 hours have been difficult to process, but her heart remains with the entire Brink family.

“It’s been overwhelming. I’ve never been in a situation like this. I just couldn’t stop thinking about the little girls that saw his face,” Ruiz said.

Lupita’s Beauty Salon is a family-run business that has been in Springdale for decades. Ruiz has been employed there for 11 years.
