WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Looking for things to do across the DMV on a budget and don’t know how to spend your days off? Or are you new to the area? Well, you’re in luck.
In DC News Now’s latest streaming show, DMV Download, hosts Kaitlyn Dillon and Makayla Jennings, explore upcoming events and hidden gems across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
In episode one, learn more about the upcoming tax-free weekend from Aug. 1-3, a hidden gem museum and events, including:
Shark Bites and Brews at the Wharf
- Saturday, Aug. 2, from 5-8 p.m. on Transit Pier at the Wharf.
- Attendees are asked to wear “shark-themed” colors, including blues and greys
- Activities include: mechanical shark, dunk tank, and donut-eating contest
- Live pop and rock music on the floating stage
- Free, all ages welcome. Bring your pup, they’ll have plenty of water bowls
Fairfax County Carnival
- Thursday, July 31, through Sunday, Aug. 3, at Frying Pan Farm Park
- Times vary on the day, with the carnival pausing from 4-5 p.m. each day for animal exhibits
- Activities include: Carnival games and rides, 4-H exhibits, truck shows, and farm animals
- One-day unlimited ride wristband is $25 per person. No-ride ticket is $1.25 per person
Wine and Jazz at Marietta
- Saturday, Aug. 2, from 2-7 p.m. at Marietta House Museum in Prince George’s County
- Attendees encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets
- Vendors include: wine, food, crafts and chat with local authors.
- $10 admission fee, with the event being rain-or-shine
The Weeknd “After Hours Til Dawn 2025 Tour”
- Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. in Northwest Stadium
- Opening acts include Playboi Carti and Mike Dean
- Tickets can be found on SeatGeek, with parking ranging from around $80
- Metro lines available
