SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Springdale man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a Prairie Grove Couple at Devil’s Den State Park following a five-day search.
Andrew James McGann, 28, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. He was charged with two counts of capital murder connected to the deaths of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, who were fatally attacked while hiking with their two daughters.
His mugshot was posted early Thursday morning.
Arkansas State Police said during a presser that McGann was taken into custody at 4:57 p.m. at Lupita’s Beauty Salon in Springdale.
Officials said the Brink family was among some of the first to know after ASP special agents swiftly closed in on McGann’s capture.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised law enforcement on the local, state and federal levels for their courageous, heroic and tireless efforts.
Officials said investigators had been chasing after leads, leaving no stone unturned, since just before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday when they first received a call about the attack.
Governor Sanders asked everyone to lift the Brink family in prayer as they navigate incomprehensible grief.
“We’re here in northwest Arkansas, a community that has been absolutely heartbroken over the course of the almost last week,” Sanders said. “Our entire state is grieving for the tragic loss and the senseless and horrific crime that’s taken place in this area.”
Washington County Prosecutor Brandon Carter told KNWA/FOX24 that McGann is scheduled to appear in court on August 1.
McGann is being held in the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set.
