Vigil held for Meigs County missing man

RACINE, Ohio (WOWK) — The Racine community is joining forces to help find a missing man and hoping for his safe return.

A vigil was held at the Racine Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday for Danny Sayre, who was visiting his parents from California and went missing after he walked away from his father Friday night.

Dozens of people attended the vigil with church leaders saying prayers for Sayre’s safe return, as well as for his family and the first responders who are searching for him.

The community is rallying together to not only pray for Sayre, they are also working alongside local fire departments to help with the search efforts.

People are signing up to search by foot and by boat. Some people even used their drones to help in the search.

Adam Will, the pastor at Bethany Church who organized the vigil, said that he hopes this vigil will encourage people to keep looking.

“We think that prayer does change things. And in the New Testament, Jesus used the example of if you have one sheet missing, that you leave the 99 to go find the other one,” Will said. “And, we’re just really fortunate in our community that we also have the 99 of the sheep also going to find the one. So, we’re hoping that vigil will not just move God’s heart, but also encourage others to keep looking.”

Will said that the community will always come out for each other when someone is in need.

“It’s been amazing to see all the people, different fire departments, different schools, everybody coming together to help accomplish this one goal,” Will said. “And, that is probably the, the best part about our community. Unfortunate when anything like this ever happens, but when it does, we really rally together and help each other out.”

While Sayre went missing on Friday, his father was unable to report him missing until Monday.

Saturday police did speak to Sayre at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources boat ramp in Racine, but were not able to detain him.

On Tuesday, K9s were alerted to Danny’s scent in the Minersville area, according to the Racine VFD.

Sayre’s father, Dan, told 13 News that if anyone sees his son to call 911, and that he hopes to bring his son home soon.
