Bloomington, Ind. – July 30, 2025

Mayor Kerry Thomson addressed Bloomington’s growing homelessness crisis during a press conference at City Hall, stating: We cannot arrest our way out of the homeless problem.

With over 300 people currently unhoused, Thomson described the city’s support systems as “flooded” and said Bloomington is “barely treading water.”

Her remarks come in the wake of recent Bloomington Police Department raids at Seminary Park and near Crawford Apartments, targeting individuals suspected of dealing drugs to the city’s most vulnerable residents.

Thomson emphasized the need for housing and services—not just enforcement—and called out other jurisdictions for dropping off patients and unhoused individuals in Bloomington without support.
