UDOT announces update in Bangerter Highway project

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah Department of Transportation have announced major progress on a construction project aimed at renovating Bangerter Highway.

On July 30, 2025, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced that they had finished installing new pavement beneath the new interchange at 13400 South. This is a major milestone in an ongoing project to make Bangerter highway more like a freeway.

“Driving under the bridge is a big sign that this project is moving forward,” UDOT Region 2 Director Robert Stewart said of this milestone, “It’s always exciting when people can start using parts of the new infrastructure — it makes the progress feel real.”

Some work still needs to be done in order to complete this project. Crews will be working to shift traffic underneath the bridge through Monday, August 4. In the meantime, some restrictions will remain in place.

Between Friday night through Monday at 5 a.m., left turns at 13400 South from Bangerter Highway will still be restricted. There will be a temporary stoplight for the left turn lane that travels northbound from Bangerter Highway to westbound 13400 South. The stoplight will remain until October when east and westbound travel reopens.

Bangerter Highway is also being renovated at 4700 South, 9800 South, and 2700 West, as crews work on installing a new bridge deck. Once construction is done, Bangerter Highway will be free flowing and will not have stoplights between I-15 and 4100 South.

According to UDOT, “these upgrades will enhance safety and reduce delays for drivers across the Salt Lake Valley’s west side.”
