Authorities charged 25-year-old Tyler Wang’Ombe-Gichuru with several offenses, including two counts of second-degree rape-child under 13, assault and multiple additional sexual offenses.
It all started on July 22, when a relative of the two children, both under 10 years old, contacted police to report that Wang’Ombe-Gichuru had assaulted the pair while he was teaching them to swim that day.
Following the report, officers opened an investigation, discovering that the children’s family had hired Wang’Ombe-Gichuru to give them private swim lessons after initially meeting him at a trampoline park in Laurel, where he works, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department. The alleged assaults reportedly took place at a community center in Upper Marlboro; however, police noted that Wang’Ombe-Gichuru is not an employee there.
As of Wednesday, Wang’Ombe-Gichuru is only charged in connection with this case. He is currently being held without bond.
Detectives urge anyone with information or who believes they may have been victimized by Wang’Ombe-Gichuru to call 301-772-4930.
