According to the study from LendingTree, construction wages in North Carolina changed by 11.4% from 2021 to 2024, 11 points less than the overall wage change of 22.3%, while construction employment changed by 13%, 2.2 points higher than the overall employment change of 10.8%.
The Tar Heel State has had 19.11 new permits per 1,000 units during that time.
Idaho has the strongest construction industry, with Arizona, Texas, and Utah tied for second. The state with the construction industry struggling the most is Pennsylvania, according to the study.
The study was based on relative wage growth, relative employment growth, and new housing construction data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau.
It did not include Colorado because of data quality concerns from the BLS.
