Best Buy is bringing more of a homey feeling to some of its stores through a new partnership with IKEA announced on Thursday.
The Richfield-based electronics retailer is teaming up with the Swedish but now Dutch-based furniture giant to create a new in-store planning a shopping experience at some locations.
As part of the deal, IKEA will set up mini showrooms in some Best Buy stores, offering IKEA products and services at another retailer for the first time.
The experience aims to create “a one-stop destination where customers can design their dream kitchen, storage solutions or laundry space with ease,” according to a statement from Rob Olson, chief operation officer, IKEA U.S.
However, Minnesotans may not get to experience that for some time.
The companies will start rolling out its in-store collaboration this fall but only at select Best Buy locations in Florida and Texas. If the partnership goes well, it’s possible it is expanded to other locations but so far no plans have been shared to bring the experience to Minnesota locations.
It’s the latest move for Best Buy, which continues to try to expand its offerings beyond electronics. The company has been focused on launching its third-party marketplace this summer and is now teaming up to add home goods into the fold.
Best Buy has over 90,000 employees across more than 1,000 stores.
