The NBA G League team, the Mad Ants, has rebranded and relocated from Fort Wayne to Hamilton County. The newly minted Noblesville Boom will now play in a brand new $93 million facility that was under construction for nearly two and a half years.
“When we started this entire project, working with Noblesville, it was to really create the best building in the G League, and I think it far exceeded our expectations,” said Todd Taylor, President of Business Operations for Pacers Sports and Entertainment.
Pacers Sports and Entertainment wanted to give these up-and-coming athletes a state-of-the-art arena and feel like they’ve scored a slam dunk.
There are 3,500 seats inside the Arena at Innovation Mile and the giant jumbotron screen can be seen all the way from I-69.
“It’s amazing to have a home of our own. Now the work begins, right?” said Taylor.
Even the locker room showcases the team colors of navy, gold, and cyan blue, all the way to the hall where photos of former Mad Ants players who went on to play in the NBA are on display.
The G League will have about 40 games on the court each season, but with 115 events throughout the year, fans can expect more than just basketball.
The city is planning to house everything from conventions to concerts, with a green room for the talent.
“There are folks that have approached us, you know, about putting dirt in there, for example, for rodeos,” said Mayor Chris Jensen.
“The ceiling height is sufficient for gymnastics and volleyball.”
The venue hopes to leave its mark on the community as an asset for all. It will serve as the anchor for Innovation Mile and a major boom for the economy when they fill all the seats in the house.
“This investment is going to turn into a $2 billion revenue stream for the state of Indiana, long term over the next 30 years,” said Jensen.
The ribbon cutting for The Arena is on Aug,. 8 ahead of the mayor’s State of the City address. The first Boom game will be in November. Those dates have not yet been released.
The first concert in the venue is Signs of Life: The American Pink Floyd tribute band on Aug. 23. The show is free to the public.
