HIGHLAND, Ind. — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a federal lawsuit against Bossman Tacos, LLC, alleging the restaurant allowed male kitchen staff to repeatedly sexually harass female servers—including teenage employees—at its Highland, Indiana location.
The lawsuit, announced Tuesday, claims that since at least November 2021, the restaurant’s head chef and other male cooks engaged in egregious behavior, including trapping female employees in restrooms and walk-in refrigerators to make unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate touching, propositions for sex, and lewd sexual jokes. Some employees were reportedly forced to quit due to the severity of the harassment.
“Employers have a responsibility to create a safe working environment for their employees, especially when the company hires young employees who may not know their rights and may be particularly vulnerable to harassment in the workplace,” said EEOC Indianapolis Regional Attorney Kenneth L. Bird.
The lawsuit, EEOC v. Bossman Tacos, LLC (Case No. 2:25-cv-00316), was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, Hammond Division, after efforts to reach a pre-litigation settlement failed.
The alleged conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace.
The EEOC said it continues to focus on protecting vulnerable workers, including teens and young adults, through its Youth@Work initiative, which provides educational resources on workplace rights and responsibilities.
