Ricardo Cortez O’Neal, 33, of Washington, D.C., was charged with second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and other related charges in connection with the death of his roommate, 49-year-old Jamil Offutt of Capitol Heights, Md.
On Feb. 13, officers responded to the 6900 block of Valley Park Rd. for a physical dispute between tenants. There, they found Offutt in the home’s basement unconscious and suffering from trauma, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Medics took Offutt to the hospital, where he died nine days later, on Feb. 22.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Offutt died from blunt force trauma, ruling his death a homicide.
In an announcement on Wednesday, PGPD said detectives arrested O’Neal on July 29. He is being held without bond.
Police urge anyone with information relevant to the investigation who would like to speak to a Homicide Unit detective to call 301-516-2512.
