ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Deputies arrested Donnie Woods, 41, after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a girl but was stopped by a bystander.

On July 24, officers were called to the 4200 block of West State for reports of domestic violence. The woman said she was sitting in her vehicle in a parking lot when Woods approached the car.

The two started arguing, which resulted in Woods pulling the girl out of the woman’s vehicle, court documents show.

The victim attempted to stop the suspect and call 911, authorities reported.

The woman told deputies that Woods punched her several times and destroyed her cell phone during the incident.

A bystander saw the attack and attacked Woods until he let go of the child, according to court records.

Woods proceeded to get into a vehicle and flee the scene.

The driver of the car that the suspect fled corroborated the victim’s story.

Woods is on parole and has active arrest warrants for stalking the victim, court documents show.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail on July 30.

Woods is charged with kidnapping by force, domestic battery that caused bodily harm and interfering with the report of domestic violence.
