Bernie Sanders coming to West Virginia to ‘fight oligarchy’

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF/WOWK) — Longtime United States Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is coming to West Virginia.

Sanders will be in Wheeling. Charleston and Lenore in West Virginia for a speaking program called “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here.”

The first event will be at the Capitol Theater in Wheeling on Friday, Aug. 8. Doors for the event will open at 3:30 p.m. and the speaking program will begin at 6 p.m.

Next, Sandars will be in Lenore and Charleston on Saturday, Aug. 9.

His first stop will be at the Lenore Community Center at 19 Laurel Creek Road in Lenore, Mingo County. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with the speaking program starting at 1 p.m.

After leaving Mingo County, Sanders will head to the Capitol City that afternoon. The event will take place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and the speaking program starting at 6 p.m.

During the speech, organizers say Sanders is expected to focus on the takeover of the national government by billionaires and large corporations and the disastrous “Big Beautiful Bill,” which will cause 15 million Americans to lose their health insurance and destroy the national safety net.

Also speaking at the event will be local workers who have been helping the community, challenging corporations, and fighting for labor rights in West Virginia, according to organizers

Those who want to attend the events will need to RSVP:

Sanders is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history and has held his seat since 2007.

According to the events webpages, no signs, flags, hard water bottles, weapons (including for those with open carry permits), chairs or bags larger than a fanny pack will be permitted. There will be ADA seating provided at the events, and exceptions can be made for bags only in the case of medical needs.
