Yosemite hiker killed by falling tree branch

YOSEMITE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman is dead after going out for a hike in Yosemite, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday.

On Saturday, July 19, 29-year-old Angela Lin went out for a day hike in the Tuolumne County portion of the park. During the hike, deputies say Lin was struck by falling portions of a tree.

The force of the impact killed Lin, and an autopsy by the Tuolumne County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause of death was accidental.

According to a story published by SFGate, Lin was a software engineer for Google and was visiting from the Bay Area. They say she was with her boyfriend on a paved trail through Tuolumne Grove when she was fatally struck.

In an email to YourCentralValley.com, Yosemite Public Affairs Officer Scott Gediman wrote, “The incident remains under investigation.”
