TOPEKA (KSNT) – Ashley Pippin, the digital marketing coordinator for Special Olympics Kansas, joined the 27 News morning show to talk about their upcoming state swim event.

The swimming competition is set for Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Capitol Federal Natatorium at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.

According to a press release from Pippin, the event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with team check-in and warm-ups, followed by Opening Ceremonies at 9:45 a.m. Competition events will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring both traditional and low motor skill swimming events.

Pippin told 27 News the event is still in need of volunteers. From the press release, “Volunteers are still critically needed to help with roles including timekeeping, awards distribution, athlete staging, event logistics, and more. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to support athletes and help create a welcoming, well-run event.”
