Road construction to begin on Illinois Route 2 between Rockton and South Beloit

ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — The Illinois Department of Transportation will begin roadwork on Illinois Route 2 between Rockton and South Beloit, a resurfacing project expected to be completed in October.

According to IDOT, the work zone will stretch north of Roscoe Road to Prairie Hill Road, where workers will patch, mill, and resurface the road and upgrade existing traffic signals.

The $2 million project will require reducing the roadway to two open lanes in each direction.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of a $33.2 billion investment from the Rebuild Illinois act.
