Plaquemines Parish SPCA remains temporarily closed, animals relocated

BELLE CHASE, La. (WGNO) — The Louisiana SPCA’s Plaquemines Parish campus remains closed as of Wednesday, July 30, due to air conditioning issues.

According to the Louisiana SPCA, repairs to the main system are currently underway. Portable AC units have been installed at the shelter, and all animals have been temporarily moved at the Louisiana SPCA’s New Orleans campus at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd. SPCA officials said the New Orleans shelter’s space is currently stretched to maximum capacity as a result.

“We hope to be open as soon as next week and look forward to reconnecting with the community,” said Madison Fragan, Plaquemines Parish Campus Shelter Supervisor. “Until we reopen, we encourage the community to visit our New Orleans campus to meet and adopt the animals currently in our care, before they return to Plaquemines.”

Those interested in assisting the animals before reopening can foster, adopt or make a shelter donation on the Louisiana SPCA website.
