The $25,000 grant is from Earthrise Energy’s RISE Grant program.
Girl Scouts said the funding will be used to for outreach programming — which includes activities that teaches girls the skills they need to grow, and find social support, friendship, and positive adult role models.
The outreach programming helps provide these activities to schools and organizations where resources are limited. Girls between the ages of 5-17 meet bi-weekly during the school year and participate in activities that focus on financial literacy, outdoor education, mental health, among other topics.
Girls Scouts said these activities are meant to bolster confidence and peer collaboration. The programming is delivered at schools and community sites, which eliminates transportation barriers, according to organizers.
“Funding from generous organizations like Earthrise Energy ensures our outreach program remains available for the at-risk girls and collaborative partners we serve here in Vermilion County, as well as throughout Central Illinois,” Jennifer Sedbrook, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, said in a news release. “Our goal is for every girl to have the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting and gain the skills to reach her full potential and become a leader in her home, school and community.”
