Former NBA, KU player arrested for alleged fraud

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — NBA veteran Marcus Morris Sr. is accused of owing two Las Vegas casinos $265,000 for checks he wrote that never cleared his bank.

Morris, a guest ESPN analyst and former Celtic, was arrested on Sunday in Florida on a warrant out of Nevada on a felony fraud charge and will be extradited to Las Vegas, according to Clark County court records.

Morris allegedly wrote 30 checks, each in the amount of $5,000, to the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino between June 21 and June 22, 2024, totaling $150,000, so he could obtain cash or gaming chips, according to the criminal complaint.

Morris is also accused of writing checks to the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino for $115,000 that he never paid back, according to TMZ.

Morris’s warrant states there were not sufficient funds in Morris’s bank account to cover the checks, even after the Wynn sent a certified letter to notify Morris of the returned checks and demanded payment.

Court records show Morris is facing one charge of drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds and with intent to defraud of a value greater than $1,200 and one charge of theft valued at $100,000 or more.

Morris, a free agent, last played during the 2023-24 season.
