Developer Sandfall Interactive has published Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update 1.4.0, adding key features like a Battle Retry option alongside a host of quality-of-life changes, visual improvements, and bug fixes.
The team behind 2025’s breakout turn-based hit laid out everything fans need to know about the new update, as well as full patch notes, on its
“We’re SUPER excited to bring you the Battle Retry option in this update,” Sandfall says in its Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 1.4.0 patch notes, “which has been one of our most requested QoL additions! We’re also thrilled to have added Frame Generation and Low Latency on compatible NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. We are still exploring support for FSR, but we need more time to work on it. Stay tuned for more updates on that in a future patch!”
Battle Retry is easily the biggest change included in update 1.4.0. The patch notes for today’s changes describe the feature as a pop-up window that appears after the player is defeated. It’s meant to streamline the often-challenging experience Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 offers by allowing players to hop right back into the fight without delay.
Those who have enjoyed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 since its launch in April will also find that the Pictos menu now displays the Lumina cost for abilities after the 1.4.0 update. An autoplay dialogue feature was also added for conversations that take place outside of cutscenes, with separate volume sliders also now available for those looking to customize their listening experience.
Meanwhile, those looking for cleaner environments will find their time with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to feature smoother gameplay and less input lag. The team also says it’s introduced “various environmental bugfixes, tweaks, and visual polish” to help maintain an immersive experience across different areas.
Sandfall stops short of detailing exactly what will be in the next Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update, simply telling fans that “there is more to come in the future.” In the meantime, you can read about the time the developers met with the Square Enix team to exchange ideas. You can also check out how the experience made star Charlie Cox finally interested in playing video games.
Finally, for everything included in today’s update, you can read the full 1.4.0 patch notes below.
