Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed an executive order moving the state tax filing deadline from April 15 to Dec. 31. The order applies to all 75 Arkansas counties.
Previously, the IRS had extended the federal tax filing deadline from April 15 to Nov. 3 in accordance with the FEMA disaster declaration. Under Arkansas law, taxpayers are granted a one-month extension from their federal tax due date to file state taxes.
The revised deadline applies to 2024 returns of individuals, Subchapter S Corporations, C Corporations, pass-through entities, fiduciaries and estates, partnerships, and composite returns, officials said.
Penalties will not apply for returns that are timely filed by Dec. 3. Due dates for any estimated tax payments, however, are not extended and must be paid when otherwise due to avoid penalties and interest.
Instructions for those taking advantage of the extended federal deadline are available on the IRS website.
