Texas drivers get a good deal on toll roads, report says

DALLAS (KDAF) — If you’ve ever cruised down one of Texas’ many toll roads, you might be surprised to learn you’re getting a good deal…at least compared to other parts of the country.

A new study conducted by Chicksx.com analyzed data from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to rank the average cost of toll roads across all 50 states. Reviewing over 400 toll roads nationwide, the report factored in average tolls per pass and per mile to determine which states are the most—and least—affordable.

Texas drivers can breathe a small sigh of relief. With 84 toll roads spanning 869.60 miles, the Lone Star State ranks tenth lowest in toll costs overall. On average, Texans pay about $3.05 per toll and just $0.29 per mile, making travel across the state relatively wallet-friendly.

Texas also boasts the second-highest number of toll roads in the country, just behind Florida. Its longest? State Highway 130, a high-speed alternative to the notoriously congested I-35.
