The scooter-vehicle crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Capitol Expressway, west of Tuers Road. According to investigators, a man driving a 2005 Chevy Astro van “veered into the bike lane” and struck the victim, who was riding his electric scooter.
Following the crash, the Chevy driver attempted to flee the scene in the Astro but was stopped by responding police officers, SJPD said.

The driver, who was also not identified by authorities, was arrested for felony hit and run and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
Anyone with information in the fatal crash is asked to contact Detective Aldinger at 4183@sanjoseca.gov or 408-277-4654.
