(KRON) — With two Southern California locations recently announcing their closures, there will be one remaining Sears on the West Coast. The Sears in Burbank and Whittier will both be closed by the end of this summer. The former is closing for good by the end of August, and the latter reportedly closed over the weekend.

The former mall staple is soon to be down to its final California location: the Sears at the Sunvalley Mall in Concord. As of now, Sears has not publicly stated what its plans are for the East Bay store.

At the end of 2023, KRON4 reported that 12 Sears locations remained in the United States. Closures since then include the Stockton store, which closed in summer of 2024. According to multiple reports, all Sears locations in Washington closed by the end of 2024. The last Sears store reportedly closed in Oregon in 2018. According to The Patriot Ledger, a USA Today subsidiary, these are the remaining Sears locations in the country.

  • Concord, Calif.
  • Miami, Fla.
  • Orlando, Fla.
  • Braintree, Mass.
  • El Paso, Texas

It is unclear if Sears plans to keep those stores open long-term. The last Sears in Puerto Rico appears to be closing this summer as well.

The decline of the former retail giant has been well-documented.

Sears filed for bankruptcy in 2018, which led to the closure of 142 stores that year. According to The Wall Street Journal, Sears had around 900 stores open in 2018.

The Sears referenced in this article does not include “Sears Outlet Store” and “Sears Hometown Store” locations. The latter stores are independently owned and sell Sears merchandise.
