Police announce arrest in North Philadelphia homicide

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — Nearly three weeks after a deadly shooting in North Philadelphia, a man is now facing murder charges, police announced Monday.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, at 12:47 a.m. on July 18, 2025, officers responded to a “Shot Spotter” alert near 20th Street and Lehigh Avenue. When police arrived, officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, lying in the street in front of a home on the 2000 block of West Lehigh Avenue.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police later identified her as Nkechi Sprowal, 29.

On Monday, Shaheed Kilber, 37, was arrested without incident in connection with Sprowal’s death. Police announced Kilber will be charged with murder and related offenses.
