Lake Marble Falls reopens for public boating access

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Lake Marble Falls is back open for public boating access after the July Fourth weekend floods, according to the city of Marble Falls.

The lake was previously closed due to “flood debris, fast-moving flows and bacteria levels that traditionally increase after a flood event,” the city explained on social media earlier this month.

Boat ramps are back open and available for recreational use, the city added, but folks should stay off the Highland Lakes at night to avoid debris, per advice from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

The LCRA also advised people to stay clear of cloudy, murky or foul-smelling water, as well as areas with visible flood debris or disturbed sediment. The city said this is where bacteria are more likely to be present.

All recreational, commercial and navigational uses were banned on Lake Travis, too, after the flooding, but that lake reopened this past Thursday to full recreational access.

Upcoming events on Lake Marble Falls

Though the lake is back open to the public, the city provided the following information about some upcoming events that will impact lake and boat ramp access.

  • F1 Powerboat Championship: This is happening this weekend, Aug. 1-3. During this event, Lake Marble Falls and the Johnson Park Boat Ramp will be closed for safety. More details are available online.
  • Summer Concert Series: A live concert will happen at Johnson Park on Friday, Aug. 1. Parking by the Johnson Park Boat Ramp will be unavailable to the general public during the event.

“We encourage everyone to enjoy the lake and weekend festivities safely and respectfully,” the city of Marble Falls said in a press release. “Please observe all signage, follow safety guidance, and plan for event-related closures and congestion.”

The city of Marble Falls said updates and more details can be found on its X, Instagram and Facebook pages.
