BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — 23-year-old Jeremiah Preston was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another man injured.
On October 27, 2023, deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting near the football stadium at Donaldsonville High School.
When authorities arrived, they saw a blue Ford Mustang trying to leave the area where the shooting had happened. The driver, identified as Malik Fowler, was detained at the scene.
Deputies investigating the shooting saw video surveillance showing a male suspect punching Fowler through the driver’s side window. Following the punch, Fowler is reportedly seen getting out of the blue Mustang and walking up to a nearby crowd of people, shortly after he began shooting. Those gunshots injured two men, and they were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
21-year-old Tyree Parker, of Donaldsonville, later died from his gunshot wounds.
While at the scene, detectives discovered that Preston was in the vehicle with Fowler before the shooting happened. During the investigation, APSO learned that the Gonzales man picked up the gun, ran from the scene, and later threw the gun away.
According to a report, authorities were able to confirm Preston’s actions after the shooting from social media conversations and old video footage.
Fowler pleaded guilty to manslaughter and remains in APSO custody until sentencing.
