In a GoFundMe posted by the sister of the mother of the teen, it states that 14-year-old Emma and her mother, Danielle, were involved in an incident on July 18.
The two were driving from their home in Coarsegold to San Francisco to a My Chemical Romance concert. The concert was to celebrate Emma’s eighth-grade graduation.
The GoFundMe states that as the two were driving just east of the Altamont Pass, a metal tire rim flew through the air and crashed through their windshield.
The rim struck Emma in the face, knocking her unconscious. She was left with deep cuts and bruises. Her mother, Danielle, called 911 and held her hand. In the GoFundMe, it says that Danielle was waiting in the line with the dispatcher and that’s when Emma whispered, “Mom, are you okay?”
Emma was rushed to the nearest trauma center and was intubated and underwent emergency surgery to repair her facial lacerations. She was then admitted to the ICU. According to the GoFundMe, tests revealed that the rim had hit her with such force that it had fractured her skull, which resulted in a brain bleed and severely injured her liver.
On July 23, Emma had a skull reconstruction surgery after she was transferred to UC Davis Medical Center.
A few days after surgery, she was given the green light by her surgical team. The GoFundMe states that the family just needs the “green light” from physical therapy for her to walk and eat on her own.
It did mention that Emma won’t need rehab in the hospital and that she is almost back home. To donate to the GoFundMe, click here.
