“Mountain Beer” will be a pale ale at 4.5% ABV, available at WVU sports venues, including the Coliseum and football stadium, as well as grocery stores, convenience stores and other locations where Big Timber beer is sold.
According to Big Timber sales manager Jared Wray, Mountain Beer is an officially licensed beer between Big Timber and WVU, with some of the proceeds going toward the university. But, Trust Lager fans don’t need to worry — Mountain Beer will not be replacing Trust Lager, and the two beers will be sold concurrently.
The announcement comes hot off the heels of a similar announcement between the university and Swilled Dog, which entered into a multi-year partnership to produce co-branded bottles of bourbon starting in August of 2025.
Big Timber’s lead brewer, Chris Newsom, described Mountain Beer as “a crisp, hop-forward Session Pale Ale built for game days and tailgates. Light-bodied, dry, and endlessly crushable, it’s the perfect companion for the Blue Lot or your favorite watch party.”
Wray also told 12 News that Mountain Beer has undergone some of the “most extensive test batching of any beer [they’ve] done” in preparation for the beer’s launch. The launch party for Mountain Beer will be held at Mountain Mama’s at 1137 Van Voorhis Rd. in Morgantown on Friday, Aug. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There, beer and sports fans will be able to try Mountain Beer for themselves, as well as interact with WVU Men’s Basketball coaching staff during the event.
