Two dead, five hurt after shooting in Mt. Vernon, Illinois
ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Two people died and five were injured after a shooting in Mt. Vernon on Sunday.

Officers with the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of S. 15th St. and Lamar Ave. around 12:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found several individuals with gunshot wounds. All of the victims were transported to nearby hospitals.

As of around 6 a.m. Sunday morning, police said two people died and five others were receiving treatment for gunshot-related injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, according to police. Anyone with photos, cell phone video, surveillance video or ring footage can share it with the police department here.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Littons Ambulance, United Medical Response, and Mt. Vernon Fire Department also assisted.
