DALLAS (KDAF) — A recent study by Hello Millions has revealed the most popular conspiracy theories in each U.S. state, highlighting a diverse range of beliefs across the country.

By analyzing Google Trends data and discussions from Reddit’s r/conspiracy community, the study identified QAnon as the most searched conspiracy theory in nine states, including Texas and Florida. Other prominent theories include the JFK assassination cover-up and 9/11 being an inside job, which are popular in the Northeastern states and areas directly affected by the attacks, respectively.

QAnon, a theory suggesting a secret cabal of elites running global child trafficking rings, is particularly popular in Southern states like Texas and Florida. Its prevalence may be linked to distrust in federal power and the amplification of beliefs through internet echo chambers.

The JFK assassination cover-up theory remains a topic of interest in eight Northeastern states, such as Massachusetts and Connecticut. This theory persists due to inconsistencies in official reports and the mysterious nature of the Warren Commission’s findings.

In New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, the belief that 9/11 was an inside job resonates strongly. This theory suggests government involvement in the attacks as a pretext for war and expanded surveillance, fueled by the emotional impact of the event and subsequent foreign policy decisions.

Area 51 conspiracy theories dominate in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, where the belief in government-hidden UFOs and extraterrestrial technology is bolstered by the site’s secrecy and its depiction in popular culture.

In the Pacific Northwest, states like Oregon and Washington are most inclined to believe in chemtrails, a theory that claims airplane trails are actually chemicals being dispersed into the atmosphere, often tied to environmental concerns and government mistrust.

The Illuminati theory, which posits that a shadowy elite manipulates global politics and pop culture, finds traction in California, Hawaii, and Minnesota, reflecting the intersection of celebrity culture and political intrigue.

The New World Order theory, imagining a future global authoritarian government, is popular in the Southeastern U.S., particularly in North Carolina and South Carolina, where fears of losing national sovereignty and individual freedoms are prevalent.

In the Midwest, states like Iowa and Missouri are most likely to believe that pharmaceutical companies are hiding cures to maintain treatment sales, a theory that gains traction during health crises and amid rising drug prices.

North Dakota is skeptical about the moon landing, with the theory persisting despite scientific evidence, driven by claims about shadows and flag movement during the Cold War space race.

Illinois rounds out the list with the flat Earth theory, which, despite being debunked, continues to thrive through viral content and a small but vocal online community.
