Teen arrested after officers use new technology to track down stolen vehicle
ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) — A Rockford teen is taken into custody after police said he was found running from a stolen vehicle.

Rockford Police SCOPE officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in the area of North Winnebago Street and Maple Street around 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning.

After the vehicle fled, officers deployed the StarChase system. The vehicle was tracked to a parking lot on the 500 block of North Main Street.

Police said a 15-year-old male was observed running from the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The teen is charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, reckless driving, criminal damage to property, theft, possession of burglary tools, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.

He is being held in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center.
